These things I have spoken to you, that in me ye may have peace. In the world ye will have tribulation, but be of good cheer: I have overcome the world. John 16: 33
Dear Friend, , God Bless you today! I am so thankful to be able to write to you today to ask you how you are doing? No, I don’t know your answer but I can tell you one thing for a certainty….it’s alright. I had the nerve to be just sitting here today thinking that I had nothing to do. So of course, I began to look for something to eat; while looking around my kitchen. There was food there but there was none that I should be eating so I found something productive to do. I wrote you a letter.
I have two friends by the name of James & Anna Holmes. I adore them. Let me tell you that for years I have called their home and the greeting was always the same: “God Bless you, I love you!” He said it, she said it. You could always count on hearing it if you called. But it took me many years to understand exactly what they meant and that they meant every word. I never for once doubted their sincerity but I just wasn’t used to people talking like that.
James and Anna understand that we must show our love to one another and Jesus left it as his commandment to us: “Love thy neighbor as thyself.” Powerful actually. As a result of their understanding, James and Anna decided to extend that greeting hoping that people like you and I and everyone that they know might grasp, receive and search themselves. I remember when I first heard it, I didn’t even have a response. I didn’t know what to say. I was at a loss and that wasn’t good.
What a refreshing greeting to receive in the midst of tribulation. You see, I called them one day when things weren’t going so well for me and their heartfelt genuine greeting did comfort me. I thought: “That sure is nice.”
Tribulation, pain, suffering, distress, misfortune, difficulties, trouble, problems, hardship and misery seem to find their way into our lives at exactly the WRONG time! But Jesus said in John 16:33…”in the world, you’ll have tribulation but BE OF GOOD CHEER, I have overcome the world!”
I have written this letter to you today so that you will take this scripture and post it and remind yourself of it. It will comfort you. Another expression for Be of Good Cheer is: Be of Good Courage or Chin up! Jesus already handled the problem, you can’t see the answer but TRUST GOD…stay in faith and you will. Remember that God’s word must come to pass. It doesn’t have any choice. Just keep saying it over and over (God’s Word) in the midst of a problem. Pull your bible out, look it up in the back. Develop or perfect( purr-fect) a good habit.
Each of us has something that we’re waiting on or hoping for. Most of us can’t see it. Personally, I’m trying to put something important together. I can’t see it really but I know it’s there. But REALLY I DO SEE IT…I STAND IN FAITH..I CAN TOUCH IT! I need for it to happen yesterday, but I have to do all that I need to do to make it happen and TRUST GOD to do the rest. He has never let me down. Not ever. Just so you’ll know…I’m not special. He is no respecter of persons. The bible says so. My friend and I were talking today. She was reminding me that you can’t see faith. I knew that yet I needed to hear it. Can’t see faith but it surrounds me, encompasses me, moves me, stirs me! Hallelujah!
When we are standing in faith, we are standing with a sureness and more confident than we have ever been! We have unshakeable knowledge of a thing and nothing can move us from our belief. We have or should have peace about whatever the “problem” is that we face when we stand in faith. I write to you to comfort you. You see, none of us are exempt from facing tribulation but I remind you that Jesus wants us to have PEACE in knowing that he has already overcome the world! So go…and be of GOOD CHEER!
This gives us cause to celebrate! HALLELUJAH! PRAISE GOD! Take care and I love you. Sister Elaine Davenport
