THE SECOND (Intended) MIRACLE IN MARK 5
After healing the man with the unclean spirits; Jesus got back in the boat and recrossed the lake. A large crowd awaited him. It’s safe to say word travels. As soon as he got to shore he was met by Jairus; a ruler at the synagogue, who met him and took a submissive position. Jairus explained to Jesus that his daughter was near the point of death and asked him to come lay hands on her so that she may be healed and live. That was a conditional sentence which literally said: Jesus if you come, my daughter will be healed and live. Off they went with the crowd.
The people in the crowd were all around and there was excitement in the air. Amongst them was a woman who came to get a miracle. She didn’t concern herself with anything but to touch Jesus robe even by the hem of his garment.
THE THIRD (Intended) MIRACLE IN MARK 5 (It actually became the 2nd!)
There was a woman with a blood issue for twelve years. She had seen many doctors. In fact, the bible says much of her suffering came as a result of the doctors work. She not only suffered physically, but also financially for it says that she spent all of her money. She was a woman of great faith though the implication is that her circumstances forced her to seek out Jesus. He was her only hope. She was out in public which was a no no. Having a flow of blood from a menstrual cycle for a woman of those times was considered to be unclean.
Here are some of the things that she could not do:
* Touch anyone
* Have marital relations
* Cannot be in the association of others
* Couldn’t share in Worship Services
* Not allowed in the temple courts
* Couldn’t light a candle for Sabbath
*Couldn’t participate in a Passover meal
In many cases, the penalty for such violations was death. However, this woman reached a point of sheer desperation where she said: I don’t care, I’m getting my healing. What could help her? That’s easy: The power of God.
She got in the thicket of the crowd, strategically planted herself and grabbed Jesus robe and got her healing. And then comes the confirmation of our message:
Jesus says Who touched me. The disciples were a little shocked as if to say: In this crowd you can expect someone to bump into you.
But Jesus was saying: No, this wasn’t a bump or a brush, but faith pulled on me and my power went out of me!
As they stood there, the woman came forward and though afraid of being caught and punished, she came forward and repented.
Then Jesus said, Go and be continually free forever, have peace and be totally free of this disease. That was as good as being healed. It was like what I call: The sealing of the healing. We can ask for our healing, but we can also ask to be continually free of the disease forever and to have peace.
Jesus then explained who this woman was. She was a woman of faith. He knew it. It wasn’t an experiment, it was pure faith.
He called her Daughter and he said your faith in ME has restored your health. Not touching his garment which was an act of faith, but that and her faith in God restored her.
